Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation

Meet the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s
Chu Ma
Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering

Research area The Acoustic Sensing and Functional Materials Laboratory (ASFM) explores systems and functional materials that solve fundamental challenges in acoustic sensing for biomedical imaging and treatment, non-destructive testing and communication applications.

What excites you about your work?

“I’m most excited to have the opportunity, freedom, time and resources to explore and try different approaches and eventually find the one that works.”

What do you hope to achieve?

“Eventually, we want to bring the potential impact of our research to reality. For example, we’d like to turn the technology we’ve created into a product and help people. I have one patent already issued and two submitted through WARF, and I have a really early-stage company.”

It is a privilege to work with Professor Ma and to promote their technologies within industry.
