Research area Developing a novel respiratory monitoring device that detects breathing problems in patients early, quantitatively and in real time.
What excites you about your work?
“The reason I wake up every day to work on this technology is because one day it will benefit our patients in a way that we cannot even comprehend yet. Our mission has been the prevention of breathing deterioration into respiratory failure—and breathing is complex, way beyond the traditional counting of respiratory rates. My husband Dr. Humberto Rosas and I are developing a one-of-a-kind technology that will provide comprehensive, continuous breathing monitoring, with diagnostic information at a level of granularity that we haven’t seen yet. This is meant to change the way we practice medicine.”
What do you hope to achieve?
“The company, AyrFlo, is spun out from our collaborative research in academia. It’s so exciting to translate an idea into an easily scalable hardware enabled software platform. I’m dedicated to making this company successful and scaling it fast, by bringing a new wearable and wireless device into the market, with a powerful new data set that will allow us to provide great care and insights.”
Guelay and Humberto’s joint work in creating a real-time and quantitative breathing assessment device will help communicate respiratory problems before they arise. We look forward to seeing how this technology improves patient care.
