What does WARF do with the rest of the royalty income?

As of July 1, 2026, your lab receives 5%, your department receives 5% and the dean of your school/college receives 5% of the royalties from your invention. After expenses, WARF puts the remaining royalty income in its investment portfolio, where it can benefit the university in perpetuity by generating a stream of income. These funds are then used to provide WARF’s annual grant to the university.
