MADISON, Wis. – In partnership with the Aldo Leopold Nature Center, the Discovery Building invites learners of all ages to celebrate Wisconsin’s natural heritage and the author who made it famous.

The free event will be held Saturday, January 6, at the Discovery Building on the UW–Madison campus from 10 a.m. to noon.

Through a variety of hands-on exploration stations, kids and families will learn how to spot critters, read animal tracks and tree rings, make a personalized nature journal and build instruments to measure the wind and weather.

An icon of conservation, Leopold’s legacy lives on. His 1949 essay collection, A Sand County Almanac, remains a cornerstone of environmental science and ethics. His work has inspired millions of readers, in twelve languages, to cherish the natural world “as a community to which we belong.”

The January 6 event is part of Saturday Science, an ongoing program that helps community members connect with science in a casual atmosphere. The program typically is held on the first Saturday of each month at the Discovery Building, 330 N. Orchard St., Madison. For more information, visit discovery.wisc.edu/saturdayscience.

The next event on February 3 will explore the science behind Badger Athletics.
