MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation and Route 66 Ventures have teamed together to launch a fall challenge aimed at advancing innovative cardiovascular technologies. “At Route 66 Ventures, we are committed to supporting innovations that have the potential to transform health care. By partnering with WARF on the cardiology design challenge, we aim to help researchers bring breakthrough technologies to the forefront to improve outcomes for patients and reshape the future of cardiovascular health,” says Arif Sorathia, partner at Route 66 Ventures.

Projects (even early-stage) that explore novel approaches to diagnosing, treating or managing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease will be considered. Ideas could address preventing atherosclerotic plaque formation, early detection of coronary artery disease or precision medicine for the treatment of patients after a cardiovascular event. Approaches can leverage AI algorithms, advanced medical devices and imaging or novel therapeutic approaches, driving toward the goal of significantly improving patient outcomes. Proposed research should be completed within a year.

Submissions are due to WARF by November 15. Criteria include:

  • Project team must include a PI at UW-Madison or Morgridge Institute for Research
  • Concepts must be new (can be previously disclosed to WARF)
  • Technical readiness
  • Commercial potential

“We want to recognize and support the UW-Madison researchers who are at the forefront of developing cutting-edge cardiovascular technologies,” says Erik Iverson, CEO of WARF. “Their innovative work is crucial in addressing one of the world’s most pressing health challenges, and we are committed to helping them bring these groundbreaking solutions to life.”
