A Single-Handed Petri Dish to Reduce Contamination Risk and Increase User Flexibility
WARF: P190121US02
Inventors: Aleksandar Wood, Harpreet Singh
The Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation is seeking commercial partners interested in developing a petri dish with single-handed lid connection and removal. A single-handed design minimizes the contamination risks associated with using a second hand to handle the dish. The minimized contamination risk improves the reliability of cell culture workflows.
The Invention
UW-Madison researchers have developed a petri dish with locking mechanisms for single-handed operations. As cell culture workflows can be sensitive to contamination, single-handed operation allows users to minimize contamination risks by avoiding touching the bottom of the dish with a second hand. The locking mechanisms allow single-handed petri dish movement, lid attachment and lid removal to reduce contamination risk and free the other hand for other operations.
