The Invention
UW-Madison researchers have developed a mouse model of Alexander disease, designated FVB.129S7 (Cg) Gfap tm2Mes, that was engineered as a knock-in of the R236H point mutation in the Gfap gene; this is a missense mutation (‘targeted mutation 2’) homologous to those found in humans, in an FVB mouse background. This is the same mutation as in B6.129S7 (Cg) Gfap tm2Mes (P220167), but that one is in a B6 background.
